Legislative Update – March 8th, 2022

This week featured the general election for municipal offices in Independence.  Two at-large seats on the City Council as well as the Mayor’s seat were on the ballot.  Incumbent Mayor Eileen Weir was defeated by State Representative Rory Rowland in the race for Mayor.  Incumbent at-large Councilwoman Karen DeLuccie was re-elected while newcomer Jared Fears will replace Mike Huff who was finishing his first term and served as the Mayor Pro-Tem.

New Councilmembers will be sworn in on Monday, April 18th.

The filing period for state offices ended last week and all house seats in Independence will have contested races but only one that will require a primary in August.
