Legislative Update for March 18th, 2022

The Chamber Public Policy Committee met this week with Kara Corches from the Missouri Chamber of Commerce as our guest speaker.  Ms. Corches shared with the group the priorities for the State Chamber which include limiting vaccine mandates for employers, funding for a cyber security grant program, a tax credit for research and development, and opposition to efforts to repeal the gas tax which was approved by the legislature last year.  The committee determined that the Chamber would host a candidate forum for at-large candidates for city council.  That has been set for Tuesday, March 29th beginning at 6:30 pm at the Chamber office.  Jeff Fox from the Examiner will moderate the discussion and questions from the public can be submitted via email to forum@ichamber.biz.  The committee also decided not to hold a Mayoral forum due to the announcement that one of the two candidates on the ballot has ceased campaigning.  A write-in candidate has filed but the committee felt that having not gone through the process to gather petition signatures or be on the ballot for the primary, it wasn’t fair to include that individual in a forum and only having one participating candidate wouldn’t be much of a forum.

It was a relatively quiet week in Jefferson City as both the Senate and House are on spring break but will return to session on March 21st.
