Legislative Update for March 11th, 2022
News from Jefferson City
The issue of Charter schools and open enrollment got a boost this week as the House narrowly passed HB1814 which now heads to the Senate. The Chamber has long opposed both issues due to the negative impact on our public schools and the transfer of local tax dollars outside of the jurisdictions in which they were approved. Division continues in the Missouri Senate as this week, a handful of Senate Republicans blocked a bill which would have provided more protection to sexual assault victims. A bi-partisan group from the Senate came together on Wednesday to condemn the actions of the group referred to as the “conservative caucus.” Read news coverage on this issue
The Missouri House approved legislation that would allow for the carrying of concealed weapons on public transportation and also lower the age for a carry and conceal permit from 19 years of age to 18. Read news coverage on this issue
The next week will be quiet as legislators are on spring break. Both bodies will return to session on March 21st.
